Words by Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) (Air anonymous). Taken from his historical poem "The Doom of Derorgoil". Refers to the convention of the Scottish estates of Parliament in Edinburgh in 1689, which was held to decide whether to keep James Il as monarch or change to William III and Mary. John Graham of Claverhouse (Bonnie Dundee) led 'Jacobite' followers of James out of the convention and raised the standard for James.
